How to keep track of what you watch, read and eat, in one place
28 September 2026
Most of us keep some kind of record: films in one app, books in another, runs in a third, restaurants in a notes file we never open. Each one holds a slice. None of them shows you your year.
Why one place beats five
Split across apps, your life looks like five hobbies. In one place, it looks like you: the month you read on the beach, the winter of long films, the summer you tried every new place in the neighbourhood.
It's also simply easier. One habit is easier to keep than five.
How to make it stick
- 01Save it right after, while you still remember how it felt. It should take seconds, not minutes.
- 02Use words, not a scale. "Really good", "Okay" or "Not for me" is faster than choosing between 3.5 and 4 stars, and it's what you'll want to know later anyway.
- 03Keep a want-to list next to what you've done, so the next film or place is always one tap away.
- 04Don't aim for complete. A record with the things that mattered beats a perfect record you gave up on in February.
- 05Look back once a month. Patterns show up that you'd never notice day to day, like Friday turning into film night.
What to include
Anything you'd want to remember or recommend: films and shows, books and podcasts, restaurants and recipes, concerts, classes, trips and places you stayed, even workouts. If a friend might ask "was it good?", it belongs.
