Why we're building bricks
Think about last year. The film that wrecked you in March. The restaurant you found by accident. The book you pressed into someone's hands.
The best recs never came from a rating.
Someone told you. A friend who knew you'd love the place. A text that said “you have to watch this.” A book handed over with “trust me.”
And then it got lost. A screenshot, a pin, a note from 2022, a group chat you'd never scroll back through.
A year from now, you'll remember everything. Or nothing.
Stars are for strangers.
A 4.2 is three thousand people you'll never meet, averaging out to "fine." It can't tell you if the place is right for you, because it doesn't know you.
Your friends do. They know what you like, and you know whose taste to trust for what: one friend for restaurants, another for books.
So we made one place for them.
bricks holds the places, films, shows, books, podcasts, recipes and stays your friends loved, in their own words, with an honest word instead of a star.
You save what they loved. They see it landed. Next weekend, you already know where to go.

You don't need more options. You need the one your friend would actually go back to.
Why now.
Because the performance era is exhausting, and everyone knows it. A decade of social media optimized for audiences taught people to share less and less of their real lives. The gap between what gets posted and what gets lived keeps widening.
And the newest apps go the other way entirely: harvest your data passively, then have an AI narrate your life back to you.
We think the answer to both is older and simpler. You write it down. On purpose. And it's yours.
A step, not a stone.
The name invites a wrong guess, so let's settle it. A brick isn't a stone you set down and leave. It's a step, and a step is part of a path: somewhere you're going.
Every brick you lay is a step: the film, the Tuesday dinner, the place your friend swore by. Laid down one in front of the other, it becomes a path your friends can follow.
What we believe.
Real over curated.
The honest version of your life is the interesting one.
The profile is a person, not a collection.
Privacy makes honesty possible.
Your account is public or private. Your call.
Saving a rec should take seconds.
Any longer, and you'll forget it.
No noise.
If it doesn't come from your people, it doesn't belong in your feed.
Lay the first brick.
